Now available: Your monthly Fix Club fix

I’m always a bit surprised when I finally get around to doing something I’ve been meaning to do for ages. I know that I will eventually do it, but my downbeat inner voice likes to make out that I never will. So I’m delighted that I didn’t listen to it too hard. And so pleased to have made Fix Club a real thing at last.

Thanks so much to the 12 excellent people who came along to Fix Club #1, and super photographer Zoe Dixon who captured the shots included here and scattered around the website. It was a lovely evening, spent mending, sharing ideas, tips and materials, and meeting our neighbours. We darned socks and sweaters, needle-felted jumpers, stitched up holey coat pockets, patched moth-eaten tops, ‘butchered’ pyjamas (repairer’s own words), embroidered and more.

All my anxieties around forgetting something, no one showing up, people thinking I was there to teach them, etc etc, soon disappeared thanks to friendly people bringing really good vibes along with the community centre’s 1980s playlist.

I personally completely failed to fix anything, only making my son’s tiger jumper worse by attempting an embroidered star without knowing how to actually approach it. I’m pleased to say I’ve now taught myself, and it’s looking better!

Looking forward to Fix Club #2 now, roll on Monday 9 June! See you there?
